Director R Balki, has straight came to the topic of menstruation from the beginning of the movie, where Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor has played their part beautifully & conveyed the message to the society in a dramatic way.
"Laxmi" character played by Akshay Kumar has given the courage to the society for taking this visible phase of the menstrual cycle of women not as a problem but as an important cycle of women's life, where she should use a hygienic menstrual pad to keep herself safe and aways from any vaginal infection.
There was a scene, where Laxmi was misunderstood by his villagers and his in-laws takes his wife “Sarla” away from him due to his assignment of testing his hand-made sanitary pad, which he was offering openly to all the ladies around him for their valuable feedback on the quality of product.
The situation was difficult for him because his effort & intention was to save women from the infection, which may cause due to the uses of unhygienic cloths at the time of menstruation but women were the first in the queue to blame him for interfering into their medical problem.
Then after, he decides to leave his village and invents a machine of manufacturing a sanitary pad in the cost of Rs. 2.00.
Some dialogs and funny scenes present in the movie has made the serious story line entertaining.
Women & girls should be educated about the fluctuations in hormone levels during the menstrual cycle happens in their body and the precaution required to be taken during the period.
The menstrual cycle occurs due to the rise and fall of hormones and it is totally natural and important.
This problem not only related with the body of women but could also be a reason of mental tension, headaches, irritability, depression & etc.
2 hours 20 minutes, is a very less time duration of the movie to feel the struggle of Tamil Nadu's activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who's mission was to manufacture sanitary napkins in a very cheap price and providing it to those poor women, who uses rag cloths or leaves during their periods.
Movie not only succeeded in spreading the awareness of women's menstrual period and the precaution required during the time. But have also given a strong message to the entire society of taking special care of females during this time.
Guest presence of Amitabh Bachchan, brings the “PAD-MAN” in the category of American superheroes' such as Spider-Man & Bat-Man.
After seeing this movie, you may get comfortable in discussing about menstruation among your family, friends & relatives as it is a normal medical phase of women, not a matter of shyness.
